Eligibility > Restoration Shops
When your classic or exotic car is being modified or customized by a restoration shop, your automobile is in the care, custody and control of that shop. That is why reputable restoration shops carry insurancespecifically, Garagekeeper’s Legal Liability which is a standard policy for any auto shop owner.
When sending a Select-insured automobile to a restoration shop for major work, the automobile will most likely be out of your control for an extended period of time. During this extended stay, the garage location of the automobile will effectively change. This new garage location almost certainly does not qualify under our Select program Eligibility rules. Coverage from the policy is excluded in this circumstance as our low rates and ironclad value coverage are not designed to cover an automobile in a shop environment. Please note, when regular maintenance is being performed on the Select-insured automobile, coverage is not expressly excluded in that circumstance.
Help protect yourself by confirming your restoration shop of choice has enough insurance to cover your automobile. Ask to see a Certificate of Insurance. If a certificate cannot be produced, consider moving your Select-insured automobile to a restoration shop that can provide proof of insurance.
If your restoration shop of choice routinely demands you sign a waiver absolving them from responsibility, we suggest you find another shop with no such requirement. Finding another restoration shop may not be convenient, but the alternative is a lot worse if something goes wrong.
